Top Tips for Keeping Cool in a Heatwave - August 12, 2020

1. Keep your feet cool - soak feet in cold water to help lower your temperature.

2. Apply a wet washcloth with cold water to any of these pulse points - neck, wrists, behind the knees, ankles and feet, or cool these areas in the shower.

3. Spritz skin with a face mist.

4. Fill a hot water bottle with cold water and pop in the freezer - it makes a great cool me down pack.

5. Stay hydrated - drink cool glasses of water throughout the day to help lower your temperature.

6. Limit caffeine - tea or coffee dehydrate you; instead replace with herbal tea such as peppermint tea.

7. Eat foods high in water content to stay hydrated - cucumber, watermelon, tomatoes, lettuce, blueberries, strawberries, oranges and apples.

Gratitude - July 11, 2020

It is so easy to get weighed down with what is going on in the world. So from the start of lockdown I have been keeping a weekly gratitude diary. It has really helped me focus on what matters in life. I want to share with you my top 5 picks for this week:

1. Having mum staying with us for the first time in over 4 months.

2. Our amazing themed Irish evening.

3. Precious family time at Holkham beach.

4. A trip to Lincolnshire to see family, and the best fish and chips around.

5. The news I can finally return to work from next week!

Seeing it in print every week makes me feel so grateful for what I have. What are you grateful for?

The Chakra Umbrellas - June 12, 2020

There is nothing like one of the chakra colours to brighten up your day. Colour is such a positive thing, and so important to lift our mood, keep us grounded, and protect us emotionally.

Notice how it makes you feel when you see a rainbow?

Colour is so significant during a Reiki session, and has such powerful healing qualities. The heart chakra for instance is associated with unconditional love and balance. If you are apart from loved ones, here’s a positive way you can connect with them emotionally: wear the colours green or pink next to the centre of your chest (sternum) to bring about positive energies.

Sleep Like a Baby Tonight - June 4, 2020

My clients know how much I love the natural benefits of herbal tea, and usually find one to suit their palate and needs. Chamomile and lavender are my night time favourites for a good nights sleep, which you can buy from most supermarkets.

During lockdown my son has created his very own tea blend for relaxation and sleep that he’s called Morpheus. In Greek mythology Morpheus is the god of sleep and dreams, and it certainly lives up to its name.

If you want to create this blend at home here are the ingredients:

  • Lime Flower
  • Lemon Balm
  • Valerian (has an odd aroma)

    You can sweeten with a little honey if you prefer.

    All tea ingredients were sourced online from Wilkinson's of Norwich. Supporting local businesses.

    My First Ever Virtual Coffee Morning with the Association of Reflexologist - June 2, 2020

    What a great way to start the day.

    Thank you to Sue Hamlin for the stimulating discussion on Reflexology for Menopause. Tickets were sold out within 2 hours. So I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to attend and share experiences with other members. I cannot wait to get back to the treatment room and try out some new techniques on my wonderful clients.

    One of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Be Active - May 22, 2020

    There is something quite mesmerising about Tai Chi; with moves such as cloud hands, painting the rainbow and grasping a birds tail.

    I am only 3 months in to learning Tai Chi but loving the synchronised movements, and internal energy it gives. It’s great for muscle strength, flexibility and balance, and perfect exercise for mind, body and spirit. As my teacher, Cath would say, “Motion is lotion.”

    It's not the places or dates I miss - it's the people. Many of you who ask about my family will know how tough it is that my Mum is self-isolating over 120 miles away. I know how tough it is for you, and how much you are missing your family and friends. It almost feels like a sense of loss, but we are adjusting to change and keeping in touch in different ways. Thank goodness for Facetime!

    We may not be able to stay together this Easter, but the gifts and cards we exchanged in the post have been a real pick-me-up.

    The Swans Reflexology Talk And Demo - March 4, 2020

    Thank you to Debi Haden for inviting me along to the Swans ladies group in Swanton Abbott to talk about Reflexology.

    Presenting in front of a group of people is never easy, but all the ladies were so welcoming. Thank you for the constant flow of questions, and for sharing some personal information with the group. You really are a lovely bunch!

    The hand reflexology demo was great fun, and we did enjoy sticking coloured dots on some of the reflex points. It’s a good way to get precision with reflexology.

    My willing volunteer for the foot reflexology demo is the envy of Swanton Abbott.

    One thing I did notice is how much we can learn in a social group; sharing ideas, laughs, stories and building on friendships. It’s good for your well-being!

    The final group question of the evening did raise a laugh. “When can I book in?” But joking aside, If you think of any more questions please do get in touch.

    Reflexology can be performed on your feet, hands, face or ears. Here are a few photos from the weekend meeting with the Association of Reflexologist members: An Introduction to Ear Reflexology. A fascinating insight in to how placing vaccaria seeds on certain pressure points on your ears can have positive benefits to your health and well-being.

    I have worn my ear seeds for two days now and have to say my lingering sinus symptoms have improved. I will explore more of the art of ear reflexology.

    Clients find that visualisation techniques really help during treatments. To support clients in between treatments I may ask them to visualise all their negative thoughts washing away.

    This is the shower meditation if you want to try it out during your daily routine:

    These are my personal favourites and smell divine. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder my clients love them too:

    Frankincense oil known as 'king of oils' gives a profound sense of peace and wellness. It is anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic, disinfectant and is a powerful expectorant and diuretic. It has been shown to reduce inflammation in arthritis and rheumatoid-arthritis.

    Tea Tree oil can help alleviate many kinds of skin-inflammation including acne, psoriasis and eczema.

    Patchouli oil is profoundly grounding and balancing. This oil has strong anti-inflammatory, and soothing properties.

    The combination of Tea Tree and Patchouli creates a beautifully balanced fresh scent that raises the spirits.
